THE EPISTLE LESSON: Acts 14:8-18
Paul and Barnabas encountered a man lame from birth, who believed their teaching concerning Jesus. As a testimony to the power of Christ they healed the man. When the people of Lystra began to praise them, they were quick to give all glory to God, and seize the opportunity to call for a turning away from idols and a worship of the one true God who has made all things. We praise God that He has called us out of the darkness of unbelief to His glorious light.
THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 14:23-29
When we faithfully keep God’s Word, God dwells among us. Because of the promise of the Holy Spirit given to the Apostles we can be confident that all that they have written is indeed a faithful expression of His holy will for us and our salvation. Jesus assures us of His peace, which He secured for us by His death and resurrection. We have a true peace given to us by God, a glorious peace WITH God! This is not the world’s “wish” for peace. This is the perfect peace and harmony the child of God possesses, which is ours and forever because Jesus has gone to the Father.
