2013-05-19 — Babbling: Its Cause and Cure

Pentecost Date: May 19, 2013

– THE SERMON: Genesis 11:1-9

Theme: Babbling: Its Cause and Cure
I. Its Cause: Found in the Sinful Heart of Man
II. Its Cure: Found in the Mercy and Grace
THE DISTRIBUTION OF COMMUNION
We observe the Scriptural practice of close communion. Since participation in communion is a confession of unity of teaching and faith, you will not want to commune with us until you have had a chance to compare your beliefs with ours. Please speak with the pastor to set up an appointment – we want to share this blessing with you!

THE EPISTLE LESSON: Acts 21-21
With the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise- the coming of the Holy Spirit – the Apostles were blessed with a gift to speak in many languages. They were not just babbling or drunk as some suggested. They were speaking in languages known and understood by their audience, and they were proclaiming the “wonderful works of God” by which we all are saved.

THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 15:26-27
In this promise given by Jesus just hours before His Passion, He refers to the Holy Spirit as the Helper, whom Jesus would send, who proceeds also from the Father (as we confess in the Nicene Creed this morning). The Spirit would bring the truth to and through the Apostles, and so testify of Jesus! Now we are the witnesses, His speaking to others of His grace in redemption, trusting the Spirit power to bless our words of testimony.
