THE EPISTLE LESSON: Galatians 5:1, 13-25
We have been freed from the condemnation of the law. We are free from the law’s demands to secure righteousness. We have been freed not to serve the desires of our flesh, but to serve the Lord in our lives. There is a sharp contrast between the works of the flesh, abounding with all types of sin and wickedness, and the fruits of the Spirit, abounding in love and joy and gentleness and self-control. We who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its desires. Let us walk in the Spirit!

THE GOSPEL LESSON: Luke 9:51-62
It was time for Jesus to make that trip to Jerusalem when He would suffer and die for the sins of the world. It was also time for the people along the way to hear of Him and believe. The people of a Samaritan town rejected Him, and the disciples wanted swift judgment to befall them. However, Jesus isn’t about vengeance but rather salvation. He calls people to follow Him that they might be free from serving the world, free to serve Him. Enjoy the rich blessings of discipleship, and don’t look back longingly upon the vanity of this world.
