THE EPISTLE LESSON: 1 John 1:5-10
“God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” Do we then walk in darkness or light? Do we sin willfully, following the lusts of the flesh? Let us turn away from the darkness of this world and walk in the light of Christ. This is the light of gospel, that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is the righteousness of God which the Spirit would lead us to trust for life and salvation.

THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 8:12-16
Jesus boldly testified that He is the Light of the world. Those who would be His disciples will not walk in the darkness of this world. Darkness and light is not only doing good or bad, but understanding righteousness and judgment. Although the Pharisees (then as well as their counterparts now) challenge the judgment of Jesus, His judgment is true. He does not judge according to the flesh. Those that judge according to the flesh judge imperfectly according to the righteousness of man. Jesus’ judgment is true, according to the will of His Father in heaven.
