THE EPISTLE LESSON: 2 Peter 1:3-11
It is through God’s grace and power that we have all that we need for life. This includes not only that which we need for our bodies, but also all we need for spiritual life that we might live before Him, and escape the corruption of this world. Let us be diligent to grow in this grace that we may increase in knowledge and in self-control.
THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Daniel 4:30-37
The proud who give glory to themselves will be humbled by the Lord, even as Nebuchadnezzar was humbled. As soon as his presumptuous words crossed his lips the words of prophecy concerning his humiliation were fulfilled. When he humbled himself and glorified the Lord, that day his throne was restored to him. So the Lord can humble us if we are proud, and will exalt us as we glorify Him and live before Him in humility.
