THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Genesis 22:1-19
Was Abraham’s love for God great enough for him to sacrifice the son of promise, the son Sarah had bore him in their old age? God told Abraham to go to the land of Moriah, and there sacrifice his son to God. Abraham set out the next morning traveling to very likely the same mountain upon which God would sacrifice His Son so many centuries later. Abraham proceeded with sacrificing Isaac, until the Angel of the Lord stopped him, and the Lord provided a ram to sacrifice in place of Isaac. There on that mountain the Lord shall provide, and again centuries later, the Lord did provide the Lamb of God who took our place, and was sacrificed for us.
