THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 12:1-19
Jesus, who is our life, was honored with a special dinner, but few there understood the cost of the life He brings to the world. Mary anointed Jesus’ for His burial. On the next day, Palm Sunday, a great multitude was assembled “escorting” Jesus as He made His way to Jerusalem, praising Him and singing their “Hosannas.” And so we join in praising Jesus as our Redeemer and our King.
THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Zechariah 9:8-12
As Zechariah prophesied of Jesus’ royal entry into Jerusalem, he also foretold the purpose of that coming. Jesus would come to protect His people from their enemies. With His victory He would secure peace. Because of the blood of the covenant which Jesus shed upon the cross He would free the prisoners who were condemned to the waterless pit of eternal death. He is our hope and our salvation.
