THE EPISTLE LESSON: Acts 2:1-21
The Lord’s promise of the Holy Spirit’s coming was fulfilled in dramatic fashion, so that people assembled from all of Jerusalem. It was then that they heard from men of Galilee, not known fro sophistication and scholarly achievement, speaking in their mother tongues, from so many nations the wonderful works of God. While some tried to discredit them as being nothing more than rambling drunks, it was evident this was not the case. Peter proclaimed the truth of god that this was a fulfillment of prophecy by Joel. And so the age of the Holy Spirit began, and through the gospel many hearts were turned to the Lord.
THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 15:26-27
Here we read some of Jesus words of promise of the Spirit’s coming and the fruits of the Spirit in the teaching of the Apostles. By their witness we also have come to know Jesus as the Christ. By the Spirit’s blessing we believe and testify to this glorious truth of Jesus.
