THE EPISTLE LESSON: Ephesians 2:19-22
We have been blessed to have been brought into the household of God. We are no longer strangers or “illegal aliens” because of the foundation of God’s Word by which the Holy Spirit has called us to faith in Christ Jesus, the chief cornerstone. It is through Christ that we fit into the building of the temple of God, the place where the Lord dwells, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
THE GOSPEL LESSON: Matthew 10:16-22
Jesus knew what kind of dangers His disciples would face going out into the world, that He would be sending us out as sheep among wolves and there would be dangers for our souls and our bodies. Jesus warned that even loved ones would turn against believers, at times having believing family members put to death. The Lord states plainly that we will be hated by all for His name’s sake. That is the way it will be in this world, “but he who endures to the end will be saved.” (v.22)
