THE GOSPEL LESSON: Matthew 10:16-22
If we are confident of our friendship with another we will persist in asking for the favor we need. We know that even if inconvenient, our friend will come to our aid. Jesus wants us to have such bold confidence in turning to Him in prayer. He encourages us to be persistent in prayer confident that the Lord will give us every good thing we may need.
THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: 1 Kings 17:1-16
This account of how the Lord cared for Elijah during the drought in Israel and its surrounding territories teaches us of the faithfulness of God in caring for His children, even among those who are not of the natural people of Israel. God is not limited to strictly natural means in providing for us. Trust in the Lord, cast your care upon Him, knowing He is fully able to provide for our every need, and deliver us from every trouble.
