THE EPISTLE LESSON: Colossians 3:1-4
We should not be taken in by the vanity of this world with all its glitz and glory. We should seek the things that are above where Christ is. We share in Christ’s death, so now our life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ appears we also shall appear with Him in glory.

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Haggai 2:1-9
Haggai addresses the Jews who had returned from Babylon and were rebuilding the temple. Some who had been very young when Jerusalem was destroyed remembered the glory of Solomon’s temple and felt disappointed by the new temple and its lack of splendor. However, the glory is not found in the silver or the gold which are the Lord’s, but the glory of the new temple would be in Jesus coming into its courts to proclaim the coming of the Kingdom of God and the fulfillment of the Lord’s covenant of peace.
