THE GOSPEL LESSON: Matthew 2:1-12
This familiar scripture tells us of the coming of the wise men from the East searching for Him who was born King of the Jews. These gentiles, men of high position, came from afar guided by the star to worship the infant Jesus and offer Him precious gifts. So we also, by the grace and guidance of the Lord, have come to worship Jesus as our King, as our Redeemer from sin and death. May we offer Him gifts from our hearts, and honor and obey Him in all our ways.
THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Isaiah 49:1-9
The Lord describes His Servant whom He would send into the world, in whom the Lord would be glorified. Then the Lord declares an amazing thing: saving one people was too small a thing for so great a Savior. He is declared to be a light to the Gentiles so the Lord’s salvation might be known to the ends of the earth. Kings and princes would bow before Him. The Lord God would work through this Savior to bring His covenant of peace to all the earth.
