THE EPISTLE LESSON: 1 John 1:5-10
God is light, and in Him there is no darkness. If we walk in darkness, living in the way of the world, in covetousness and selfishness, fulfilling the desires of our flesh, then our confession of faith is a lie. If we shun the sinful ways of the world and walk in the light then we have fellowship with Him and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Yes, we shall still fall into sin, but even as we confess our sins He forgives us, and cleanses us from all unrighteousness.

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Isaiah 51:4-12
While we are in this world we are living in the midst of much sin and wickedness, and the world would oppress the people of God. The Lord’s justice shines as a bright light in the midst of darkness. While the world is vanishing, the righteousness of God will be forever, and the Lord’s salvation shall continue from generation to generation. Those of us who are blessed with the Word living in our hearts need not fear the reproach of men, or fear their insults. The Lord will comfort us and deliver us from all evil.
