THE EPISTLE LESSON: 2 Peter 1:3-11
Our God and Savior Jesus has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, allowing us to escape the corruption of this evil world with all of its selfish, sinful desires. Because the Lord has been gracious to us in this way let us strive to grow in living our faith, adding a virtuous life to our faith, and ever increasing in the knowledge om the truth, and exercising real self-control as empowered by the Spirit that we might persevere in the faith and live godly lives. Then the world will see brotherly love and kindness as fruits of our faith as we live to the praise and glory of Jesus.
THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 7:14-17
Jesus’ glory was clearly revealed by the authority of His teaching, but some challenged His teaching because He had not gone to study with the learned scholars of the day. Jesus’ teaching and authority had a higher source. All He taught was given to Him from God the Father. So it is yet today that the Word of our Lord is true with the authority of God and God’s power to save.
