THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Isaiah 53:4-12
In this prophetic passion account according to Isaiah we see the substitutionary quality of Jesus’ sufferings and death. “He was wounded for our transgressions” (v.5). We also see the sufficiency of His sufferings, and its effectiveness. “He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities” (v.11). How great is our salvation! He who suffered now makes intercession for us before the throne of God that we may know His peace now and forever.
