THE EPISTLE LESSON: 1 Peter 1:22-25
Peter directs us to obey the truth in love. Many in the world speculate on what the truth might be, and weigh the ideas from men alongside the truth of God. Peter points out that the Word of the Lord lives and abides forever. Man and all that comes from man quickly fades away. The Word presents the gospel of a crucified and risen Savior, the gospel that brings us new spiritual life.
THE GOSPEL LESSON: Luke 24:13-35
The two disciples on the road to Emmaus were so troubled by the events that had transpired and the different ideas about what might actually have happened. They were confused and distressed when Jesus, with His identity hidden, joined them and walked with them. As they walked Jesus explained from the Scriptures all that had happened from that Friday when He suffered and died through Sunday morning. The prophets had foretold all these things long before they happened. So the Spirit has opened our understanding that we also might comprehend the Scriptures and rejoice in a risen Savior. Jesus Is Risen Indeed!
