THE EPISTLE LESSON: Revelation 2:1-5
In these letters to the churches Jesus warns against weaknesses that creep into the church. In this letter to the church in Ephesus Jesus commends the congregation for their faithfulness in love and teaching, and in opposing that which is evil. However, Jesus is concerned that they have lost their first love! Their zeal for the Lord and His gospel has declined, and this endangers the very presence of the gospel in their midst. May we also take stock of state of our love! Have other things replaced its preeminence in our hearts? May the joy of Jesus’ resurrection renew our zeal for the gospel of a crucified and yet risen and ever living Lord.
THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 21:1-14
Jesus showed Himself alive to the disciples on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Even as He revealed Himself to them He also revealed the continuing presence of His power among them. May we also know the power of our Risen Lord in our hearts and in our lives
