THE GOSPEL LESSON: Luke 7:36-50
Jesus accepted the dinner invitation of the Pharisee. There Jesus was approached by a sinful woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her tears and anointed His feet with fragrant oil. The Pharisee wondered if Jesus were a prophet for if Jesus knew anything surely He wouldn’t allow this sinner to touch Him. Jesus saw true repentance in her heart, something He did not see in the Pharisee’s heart. He assured her that her sins were forgiven. Her faith had saved her.
THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Jeremiah 17:5-10
The Prophet teaches us that the man is cursed “who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength.” We will be blessed when we trust in the Lord and find our hope in Him. Then we need not fear no matter what comes our way. Sin begins in the heart. The heart of man is deceitful and wicked. The Lord searches the heart, and tests the mind. May God grant us a new heart that we may walk in His ways.
