2022-03-20 — Sanhedrin: We Have Heard It Ourselves from His Own Mouth!

bulletin.0002.jpg

3rd Sunday in Lent: Date: March 20, 2022

– THE SERMON: Luke 22:70-71

Theme: Sanhedrin: We Have Heard It Ourselves from His Own Mouth!
I. Hearing not Mixed with Faith.
II. Jesus Testifies to the Truth Concerning His Divine Identity
SERMON TEXT: Luke 22:70-71
70 Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?”
So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.”
71 And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.” (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 163:1-4: The Death of Jesus Christ, our Lord
1 The death of Jesus Christ, our Lord, We celebrate with one accord;
It is our comfort in distress, Our heart’s sweet joy and happiness.
2 He blotted out with His own blood The judgment that against us stood;
He full atonement for us made, And all our debt He fully paid.
3 That this is now and ever true He gives an earnest ever new:
In this His holy Supper here We taste His love so sweet, so near.
4 His Word proclaims, and we believe. That in this Supper we receive
His very body, as He said, His very blood for sinners shed.

2nd Sunday in Lent: Date: March 13, 2022

– THE SERMON: Matthew 27:41-42

Theme: “He Saved Others; Himself He Cannot Save!
I. He Saved Others
II. He Wouldn’t Save Himself.
SERMON TEXT: Matthew 27:41-42
“Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, 42 “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him.” (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 151:1-5: Christ, the Life of All the Living
1 Christ, the Life of all the living,
Christ, the Death of death, our foe,
Who, Thyself for me once giving
To the darkest depths of woe,–
Thro’ thy suff’rings, death, and merit
I eternal life inherit:
Thousand, thousand thanks shall be,
Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.
2 Thou, ah! Thou, hast taken on Thee
Bonds and stripes, a cruel rod;
Pain and scorn were heaped upon Thee,
O Thou sinless Son of God!
Thus didst Thou my soul deliver
From the bonds of sin forever.
Thousand, thousand thanks shall be,
Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.
3 Thou hast borne the smiting only
That my wounds might all be whole;
Thou hast suffered, sad and lonely,
Rest to give my weary soul;
Yea, the curse of God enduring,
Blessing unto me securing.
Thousand, thousand thanks shall be,
Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.
4 Heartless scoffers did surround Thee,
Treating Thee with shameful scorn
And with piercing thorns they crowned Thee.
All disgrace Thou, Lord, hast borne
That as Thine Thou mightest own me
And with heavenly glory crown me.
Thousand, thousand thanks shall be,
Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.
5 Thou hast suffered men to bruise Thee
That from pain I might be free;
Falsely did Thy foes accuse Thee,–
Thence I gain security;
Comfortless Thy soul did languish
Me to comfort in my anguish.
Thousand, thousand thanks shall be,
Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.
BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

HYMN 151:6-7: “Thou Hast Suffered Great Affliction”
6 Thou hast suffered great affliction
And hast borne it patiently,
Even death by crucifixion,
Fully to atone for me;
Thou didst choose to be tormented
That my doom should be prevented.
Thousand, thousand thanks shall be,
Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.
7 Then, for all that wrought my pardon,
For Thy sorrows deep and sore,
For Thine anguish in the Garden,
I will thank Thee evermore,
Thank Thee for Thy groaning, sighing,
For Thy bleeding and Thy dying,
For that last triumphant cry,
And shall praise Thee, Lord, on high.

1st Sunday in Lent: Date: March 6, 2022

– THE SERMON: John 11:49-53

Theme: “It is Expedient for Us that One Man Should Die for the People.”
I. What Caiaphas Was Thinking.
II. How Caiaphas Proclaimed God’s Truth.
SERMON TEXT: John 11:49-53
And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, 50 nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.” 51 Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, 52 and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.
53 Then, from that day on, they plotted to put Him to death. (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 380: Thy Works, Not Mine, O Christ
1 Thy works, not mine, O Christ, Speak gladness to this heart;
They tell me all is done; They bid my fear depart.
To whom save Thee, who canst alone For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?
2 Thy wounds, not mine, O Christ, Can heal my bruised soul;
Thy stripes, not mine, contain The balm that makes me whole.
To whom save Thee, who canst alone For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?
3 Thy cross, not mine, O Christ, Has borne the awful load
Of sins that none could bear But the incarnate God.
To whom save Thee, who canst alone For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?
4 Thy death, not mine, O Christ, Has paid the ransom due;
Ten thousand deaths like mine Would have been all too few.
To whom save Thee, who canst alone For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?
5 Thy righteousness, O Christ, Alone can cover me:
No righteousness avails Save that which is of Thee.
To whom save Thee, who canst alone For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?

BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

HYMN 173:1: Lord Jesus, We Give Thanks to Thee
1 Lord Jesus, we give thanks to Thee
That Thou hast died to set us free;
Made righteous thro’ Thy precious blood,
We now are reconciled to God.

THE EPISTLE LESSON: Romans 5:6-11
For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. (NKJV)

2022-02-27 — The Transfiguration Reveals Jesus’ Glory as Our Redeemer.

bulletin.0002.jpg

Transfiguration Sunday: Date: February 27, 2022

– THE SERMON: Luke 9:28-36

Theme: The Transfiguration Reveals Jesus’ Glory as Our Redeemer.
I. Know His Full Identity
II. Understand His Mission Objective
III. Listen to Him
SERMON TEXT: Luke 9:28-36
28 Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening. 30 And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 But Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him. 33 Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.
34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” 36 When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. But they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 360: Oh, for a Thousand Tongues to Sing
1 Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing My great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King, The triumphs of His grace!
2 My gracious Master and my God, Assist me to proclaim,
To spread thro’ all the earth abroad The honors of Thy name.
3 Jesus!–the name that charms our fears, That bids our sorrows cease;
’Tis music in the sinner’s ears, ’Tis life and health and peace.
4 He breaks the power of canceled sin, He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean; His blood avails for me.
5 Look unto Him, ye nations; own Your God, ye fallen race.
Look and be saved through faith alone, Be justified by grace.
6 See all your sins on Jesus laid; The Lamb of God was slain;
His soul was once an offering made For every soul of man.
7 Glory to God and praise and love Be ever, ever given,
By saints below and saints above, The church in earth and heaven.
BENEDICTION
C: Amen.
HYMN 657:4: Beautiful Savior
4 Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations,
Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor,
Praise, adoration, Now and forevermore be Thine!

THE EPISTLE LESSON: 2 Corinthians 4:3-6
3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7th Sunday after Epiphany: Date: February 20, 2022

– THE SERMON: 1 Corinthians 15:12,16-20

Theme: God’s Forgiving Grace Revealed in Jesus’ Resurrection.
I. Resurrection Reality: A Foundational Truth of the Gospel
II. Our Hope of Glory unto Everlasting Salvation
SERMON TEXT: 1 Corinthians 15:12, 16-20
Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? …
16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 307: Draw Nigh and Take the Body of the Lord
1 Draw nigh and take the Body of the Lord,
And drink the holy Blood for you outpoured.
Offered was He for greatest and for least,
Himself the Victim and Himself the Priest.
2 He that His saints in this world rules and shields,
To all believers life eternal yields,
With heav’nly bread makes them that hunger whole,
Gives living waters to the thirsting soul.
3 Approach ye, then, with faithful hearts sincere,
And take the pledges of salvation here.
O Judge of all, our only Savior Thou,
In this Thy feast of love to be with us now.

bulletin.0002.jpg

6th Sunday after Epiphany: Date: February 13, 2022

– THE SERMON: Isaiah 6:1-8

Theme: The Glory of the Lord: The Source of the Christian’s Desire to
Serve the Lord.
I. Not the Glory of His Holiness,
II. The Glory of the Cleansing Power of the Gospel
SERMON TEXT: Isaiah 6:1-8
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 So I said:
“Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The LORD of hosts.”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said:
“Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.”
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 395:1-4: O God, Thou Faithful God
1 O God, Thou faithful God, Thou Fountain ever flowing,
Who good and perfect gifts In mercy art bestowing,
Give me a healthy frame, And may I have within
A conscience free from blame, A soul unhurt by sin!
2 Grant Thou me strength to do, With ready heart and willing
Whate’er Thou shalt command, My calling here fulfilling;
And do it when I ought, With all my might, and bless
The work I thus have wrought, For Thou must give success.
3 Oh, let me never speak What bounds of truth exceedeth;
Grant that no idle word From out my mouth proceedeth;
And then, when in my place I must and ought to speak,
My words grant pow’r and grace Lest I offend the weak.
4 If dangers gather round, Still keep me calm and fearless;
Help me to bear the cross When life is dark and cheerless;
And let me win my foe With words and actions kind.
When counsel I would know, Good counsel let me find.

BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

HYMN 377:10: All Blessing Honor, Thanks, and Praise
10 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise To Father, Son, and Spirit,
The God who saved us by His grace– All glory to His merit!
O Triune God in heaven above, Who hast revealed Thy saving love;
Thy blessed name be hallowed.

So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, 2 and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. 3 Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

2022-02-06 — Jesus Reveals His Divine Authority through His Teaching

bulletin.0002.jpg

5th Sunday after Epiphany: Date: February 6, 2022

– THE SERMON: Luke 4:20-32

Theme: Jesus Reveals His Divine Authority through His Teaching
I. Hearing His Gracious Words
II. Dismissing Jesus’ Authority
III. Acknowledging Jesus’ Authority
SERMON TEXT: Luke 4:20-32
20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”
23 He said to them, “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your country.’ ” 24 Then He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country. 25 But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land; 26 but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.”
28 So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29 and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. 30 Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.
31 Then He went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the Sabbaths. 32 And they were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority. (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 415:1-4: Lo, Many Shall Come from the East and the West
1 Lo, many shall come from the East and the West
And sit at the feast of salvation
With Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the blest,
Obeying the Lord’s invitation. Have mercy upon us, O Jesus!
2 But they who have always resisted His grace
And on their own virtue depended
Shall then be condemned and cast out from His face,
Eternally lost and unfriended. Have mercy upon us, O Jesus!
3 Oh, may we all hear when our Shepherd doth call
In accents persuasive and tender,
That, while there is time, we make haste one and all
And find Him, our mighty Defender! Have mercy upon us, O Jesus!
4 Oh, that we the throng of the ransomed may swell,
To whom He hath granted remission!
God graciously make us in heaven to dwell
And save us from endless perdition. Have mercy upon us, O Jesus!

BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

HYMN 45:1: Now, the Hour of Worship O’er
1 Now, the hour of worship o’er,
Teaching, hearing, praying, singing,
Let us gladly God adore,
For His Word our praises bringing;
For the rich repast He gave us
Bless the Lord, who deigned to save us.
