2021-11-21 — “The harvest is plentiful.”

bulletin.0002.jpg

Last Sunday after Pentecost: Date: November 21, 2021

– THE SERMON: Luke 10:1-20

Theme: “The harvest is plentiful.”
I. Pray
II. Go Your Way
III. Rejoice
SERMON TEXT: Luke 10:1-20
After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. 2 Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3 Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. 4 Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road. 5 But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you. 7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. 8 Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. 9 And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’ 12 But I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.
13 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades. 16 He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”
17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 507: Spread, Oh, Spread, Thou Mighty Word
1 Spread, oh, spread, thou mighty Word,
Spread the kingdom of the Lord,
Wheresoe’er His breath has giv’n
Life to beings meant for heav’n.
2 Tell them how the Father’s will
Made the world and keeps it still,
How His only Son He gave,
Man from sin and death to save.
3 Tell of our Redeemer’s love,
Who forever doth remove
By His holy sacrifice
All the guilt that on us lies.
4 Tell them of the Spirit giv’n
Now to guide us up to heav’n,
Strong and holy, just and true,
Working both to will and do.
5 Up! The rip’ning fields ye see,
Mighty shall the harvest be;
But the reapers still are few,
Great the work they have to do.
6 Lord of Harvest, let there be
Joy and strength to work for Thee
Till the nations far and near
See Thy light, and learn Thy fear.

THE EPISTLE LESSON: Galatians 6:1-18
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For each one shall bear his own load.

2021-11-14 — Our Victory in Jesus’ Perfect Sacrifice

bulletin.0002.jpg

25th Sunday after Pentecost: Date: November 14, 2021

– THE SERMON: Hebrews 10:11-18

Theme: Our Victory in Jesus’ Perfect Sacrifice
I. Jesus Offered One Sacrifice for Sins Forever
II. Jesus exalted to the Right Hand of God
III. The Covenant of Our Salvation Secured
SERMON TEXT: Hebrews 10:11-18
And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. 15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, 16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 613: Jerusalem the Golden
1 Jerusalem the golden, With milk and honey blest,
Beneath thy contemplation Sink heart and voice opprest.
I know not, oh, I know not, What joys await us there,
The radiancy of glory, The bliss beyond compare!
2 They stand, those halls of Zion, All jubilant with song
And bright with many an angel And all the martyr throng.
The Prince is ever in them; The daylight is serene;
The pastures of the blessed Are decked in glorious sheen.
3 There is the throne of David; And there, from care released,
The shout of them that triumph, The song of them that feast;
And they who with their Leader Have conquered in the fight
Forever and forever Are clad in robes of white.

BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

HYMN 613:4: O Sweet and Blessed Country
O sweet and blessed country, The home of God’s elect!
O sweet and blessed country That faithful hearts expect!
Jesus, in mercy bring us To that dear land of rest,
Who art, with God the Father And Spirit, ever blest.

2021-11-07 — The Coming Day of the Lord

bulletin.0002.jpg

24th Sunday after Pentecost: Date: November 7, 2021

– THE SERMON: Malachi 4:1-2a

Theme: The Coming Day of the Lord
I. A Day of Consuming Fire
II. A Day of Eternal Healing
SERMON TEXT: Malachi 4:1-2a
“For behold, the day is coming,
Burning like an oven,
And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble.
And the day which is coming shall burn them up,”
Says the LORD of hosts,
“That will leave them neither root nor branch.
2 But to you who fear My name
The Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings; (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 611: 1,4,5,7: The Day Is Surely Drawing Near
1 The day is surely drawing near When God’s Son, the Anointed,
Shall with great majesty appear As Judge of all appointed.
All mirth and laughter then shall cease
When flames on flames will still increase, As Scripture truly teacheth.
4 Then woe to those who scorned the Lord
And sought but carnal pleasures,
Who here despised His precious Word And loved their earthly treasures!
With shame and trembling they will stand
And at the Judge’s stern command To Satan be delivered.
5 O Jesus, who my debt didst pay And for my sin wast smitten,
Within the Book of Life, oh, may My name be also written!
I will not doubt; I trust in Thee,
From Satan Thou hast made me free And from all condemnation.
7 O Jesus Christ, do not delay, But hasten our salvation;
We often tremble on our way In fear and tribulation.
Then hear us when we cry to Thee;
Come, mighty Judge, and make us free From every evil! Amen.
BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

HYMN 52: Almighty Father, Bless the Word
1 Almighty Father, bless the Word
Which thro’ Thy grace we now have heard.
Oh, may the precious seed take root,
Spring up, and bear abundant fruit!
2 We praise Thee for the means of grace
As homeward now our steps we trace.
Grant, Lord, that we who worshiped here
May all at last in heav’n appear.

THE ORDER OF SERVICE: (p. 22 Worship Supplement 2000)
THE EPISTLE LESSON: Hebrews 9:24-28
For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another– 26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. (NKJV)

THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 5:19-24
Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. 22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, 23 that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

2021-10-31 — Following Luther’s Example of Perseverance

bulletin.0002.jpg

Reformation Sunday : Date: October 31, 2021

– THE SERMON: Mark 13:5-11

Theme: Following Luther’s Example of Perseverance
I. Against the Deception of False Doctrine
II. Against the Troubles in this World
III. In the Face of Persecution and Intimidation
SERMON TEXT: Mark 13:5-11
And Jesus, answering them, began to say: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 6 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many. 7 But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows.
9 “But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. 11 But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 261:
1 Lord, keep us steadfast in Thy Word;
Curb those who fain by craft and sword
Would wrest the Kingdom from Thy Son
And set at naught all He hath done.
2 Lord Jesus Christ, Thy pow’r make known,
For Thou art Lord of lords alone;
Defend Thy Christendom that we
May evermore sing praise to Thee.
3 O Comforter of priceless worth,
Send peace and unity on earth.
Support us in our final strife
And lead us out of death to life.

BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

HYMN262: A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
1 A mighty Fortress is our God, A trusty Shield and Weapon;
He helps us free from ev’ry need That hath us now o’ertaken.
The old evil Foe Now means deadly woe:
Deep guile and great might Are his dread arms in fight;
On earth is not his equal.
2 With might of ours can naught be done, Soon were our loss effected;
But for us fights the Valiant One, Whom God Himself elected.
Ask ye, Who is this?– Jesus Christ it is,
Of Sabaoth Lord, And there’s none other God,
He holds the field forever.
3 Tho’ devils all the world should fill, All eager to devour us,
We tremble not, we fear no ill, They cannot overpow’r us.
This world’s prince may still Scowl fierce as he will,
He can harm us none, He’s judged; the deed is done;
One little word can fell him.
4 The Word they still shall let remain, Nor any thanks have for it;,
He’s by our side upon the plain With His good gifts and Spirit.
And take they our life, Goods, fame, child, and wife,
Let these all be gone, They yet have nothing won:
The Kingdom ours remaineth.

22nd Sunday after Pentecost: Date: October 24, 2021

– THE SERMON: Isaiah 53:10-12

Theme: The Servant of the Lord Defines True Greatness
I. Exposing the Vanity of Selfish Ambition
II. Revealing the Glory of Sacrificial Service
SERMON TEXT Isaiah 53:10-12
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied.
By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death,
And He was numbered with the transgressors,
And He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 306:1,4,7: Lord Jesus Christ, Thou Hast Prepared
1 Lord Jesus Christ, Thou hast prepared
A feast for our salvation, It is Thy body and Thy blood;
And at Thy invitation As weary souls, with sin opprest,
We come to Thee for needed rest, For comfort, and for pardon.
4 We eat this bread and drink this cup,
Thy precious Word believing That Thy true body and Thy blood
Our lips are here receiving. This word remains forever true,
And there is naught Thou canst not do; For Thou, Lord, art almighty.
7 Grant that we worthily receive
Thy Supper, Lord, our Savior, And, truly grieving o’er our sins,
May prove by our behavior That we are thankful for Thy grace
And day by day may run our race, In holiness increasing.

THE EPISTLE LESSON: Hebrews 4:9-16
9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. 11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

– THE SERMON: Hebrews 3:1-6

Theme: Find Assurance of Salvation In Jesus
I. Two Choices: Moses or Jesus
II. The Superior Choice
III. Assurance Found Only in Christ
SERMON TEXT Hebrews 3:1-6
Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, 2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. 3 For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. 4 For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God. 5 And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward. but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 376: Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me
1 Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood From Thy riven side which flowed
Be of sin the double cure, Cleanse me from its guilt and pow’r.
2 Not the labors of my hands Can fulfil Thy Law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.
3 Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to Thy cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress; Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly– Wash me, Savior, or I die!
4 While I draw this fleeting breath, When mine eyelids close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown, See Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee!
BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

Theme: God’s Complete Plan of Salvation
I. Providing Universal Redemption
II. Providing a Savior Made Perfect through Suffering
III. Making Us Part of the Family of God
SERMON TEXT: Hebrews 2:9-11
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.
10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 375:1-3: If Thy Beloved Son, O God
1 If Thy beloved Son, O God, Had not to earth descended
And in our mortal flesh and blood Had not sin’s power ended,
Then this poor, wretched soul of mine
In hell eternally would pine Because of its transgression.
2 But now I find sweet peace and rest, Despair no more reigns o’er me;
No more am I by sin opprest, For Christ has borne sin for me.
Upon the cross for me He died
That, reconciled, I might abide With Thee, my God, forever.
3 I trust in Him with all my heart; Now all my sorrow ceases;
His words abiding peace impart, His blood from guilt releases.
Free grace thro’ Him I now obtain;
He washes me from ev’ry stain, And pure I stand before Him.

So the LORD said to Moses: “Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tabernacle of meeting, that they may stand there with you. … So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord, and he gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people and placed them around the tabernacle. 25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders; and it happened, when the Spirit rested upon them, that they prophesied, although they never did so again.
26 But two men had remained in the camp: the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them. Now they were among those listed, but who had not gone out to the tabernacle; yet they prophesied in the camp. 27 And a young man ran and told Moses, and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”
28 So Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, one of his choice men, answered and said, “Moses my lord, forbid them!”
29 Then Moses said to him, “Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!” (NKJV)

Theme: Humble Service: The Key to Greatness in the Kingdom of God.
I. As Revealed in Our Savior
II. As Called for in the Christian’s Life
SERMON TEXT: Mark 9:30-37
Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it. 31 For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.” 32 But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.
33 Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest. 35 And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” 36 Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them, 37 “Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”
(NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 394: My Faith Looks Up to Thee
1 My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine. Now hear me while I pray;
Take all my guilt away; Oh, let me from this day Be wholly Thine!
2 May Thy rich grace impart Strength to my fainting heart;
My zeal inspire! As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee Pure, warm, and changeless be, A living fire!
3 While life’s dark maze I tread And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my Guide. Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away, Nor let me ever stray From Thee aside.
4 When ends life’s transient dream, When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll, Blest Savior, then, in love,
Fear and distrust remove; Oh, bear me safe above, A ransomed soul!

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. 2 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, 3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” 4 have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? …
8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. …
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 439: O God of Mercy, God of Might
1 O God of mercy, God of might,
In love and pity infinite,
Teach us, as ever in Thy sight,
To live our life to Thee.
2 And Thou, who cam’st on earth to die
That fallen man might live thereby,
Oh, hear us; for to Thee we cry,
In hope, O Lord, to Thee.
3 Teach us the lesson Thou hast taught,
To feel for those Thy blood hath bo’t,
That ev’ry word and deed and tho’t
May work a work for Thee.
4 All are redeemed, both far and wide,
Since Thou, O Lord, for all hast died,
Oh, teach us, whatsoe’er betide,
To love them all in Thee!
5 In sickness, sorrow, want, or care,
Whate’er it be, ’tis ours to share;
May we, when help is needed, there
Give help as unto Thee!
6 And may Thy Holy Spirit move
All those who live to live in love,
Till Thou shalt greet in heaven above
All those who live to Thee.
