2021-06-20 — Sowing the Seed of the Word with Confidence

bulletin.0002.jpg

4th Sunday after Pentecost: Date: June 20, 2021

– THE SERMON: Mark 4:26-34

Theme: Sowing the Seed of the Word with Confidence
I. This Seed Will Bring Forth Faith
II. This Seed Has Great Growth Potential
III. The Lord Grants Spiritual Understanding
SERMON TEXT: Mark 4:26-34
And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
30 Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”
33 And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. 34 But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 306:1,4,6 Lord Jesus Christ, Thou Hast Prepared
1 Lord Jesus Christ, Thou hast prepared
A feast for our salvation,
It is Thy body and Thy blood;
And at Thy invitation
As weary souls, with sin opprest,
We come to Thee for needed rest,
For comfort, and for pardon.
4 We eat this bread and drink this cup,
Thy precious Word believing
That Thy true body and Thy blood
Our lips are here receiving.
This word remains forever true,
And there is naught Thou canst not do;
For Thou, Lord, art almighty.
6 Lord, I believe what Thou hast said,
Help me when doubts assail me;
Remember that I am but dust
And let my faith not fail me.
Thy Supper in this vale of tears
Refreshes me and stills my fears
And is my priceless treasure.

THE EPISTLE LESSON: 2 Corinthians 5:1-10
For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, 3 if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. 4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

2021-06-13 — What Christians Have to Say:

bulletin.0002.jpg

3rd Sunday after Pentecost: Date: June 13, 2021

– THE SERMON: 2 Corinthians 4:13-18

Theme: What Christians Have to Say:
I. About Faith
II. About Facing Adversity
SERMON TEXT: 2 Corinthians 4:13-18
And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, 14 knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 370 My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less
1 My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
2 When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In ev’ry high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
3 His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When ev’ry earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
4 When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

HYMN 644 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

2nd Sunday after Pentecost: Date: June 6, 2021

– THE SERMON: Deuteronomy 5:12-15

Theme: The Blessings Received through Faithful Worship
I. Rest for Your Souls.
II. Commemorating Our Deliverance from Slavery
SERMON TEXT: Deuteronomy 5:12-15
‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
(NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
THE RITE OF CONFIRMATION
Having been thoroughly instructed in the basic truths of God’s Word and having been examined in his knowledge of the truth as it is taught in the Church of the Lutheran Confession, Lawson Schmit will this day publicly profess his faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and be received into communicant membership of St. Paul’s. Ev. Lutheran Church and the Church of Lutheran Confession.
HYMN 338 Thine Forever, God of Love
1 Thine forever, God of Love! Hear us from Thy throne above;
Thine forever may we be Here and in eternity!
2 Thine forever! O how blest They who find in Thee their rest!
Savior, Guardian, heav’nly Friend, Oh, defend us to the end!
3 Thine forever, Lord of Life! Shield us thro’ our earthly strife.
Thou, the Life, the Truth, the Way, Guide us to the realms of day.
4 Thine forever! Shepherd, keep These Thy frail and trembling sheep.
Safe alone beneath Thy care, Let us all Thy goodness share.
5 Thine forever! Thou our Guide, All our wants by Thee supplied,
All our sins by Thee forgiven; Lead us, Lord, from earth to heaven.

BENEDICTION
C: Amen.

HYMN 283 God’ Word Is Our Great Heritage
God’s Word is our great heritage,
And shall be ours forever;
To spread its light from age to age
Shall be our chief endeavor.
Through life it guides our way;
In death it is our stay.
Lord, grant, while worlds endure,
We keep its teachings pure,
Throughout all generations.

THE EPISTLE LESSON: Romans 10:5-13
For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, ” ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (NKJV)

THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 8:31-36
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

2021-05-30 — Knowing the Triune God, the God of Our Salvation!

bulletin.0002.jpg

Trinity Sunday : Date: May 30, 2021

– THE SERMON: John 3:1-17

Theme: Knowing the Triune God, the God of Our Salvation!
I. Known Only by the Working of the Holy Spirit
II. Known Only by Revelation from God Himself
III. Known Only through Faith in Jesus
SERMON TEXT: John 3:1-17
There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?”
10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 245:God Loved the World So that He Gave
1 God loved the world so that He gave
His only Son the lost to save
That all who would in Him believe
Should everlasting life receive.
2 Christ Jesus is the Ground of faith,
Who was made flesh and suffered death;
All that confide in Him alone
Are built on this chief Cornerstone.
3 God would not have the sinner die,
His Son with saving grace is nigh,
His Spirit in the Word doth teach
How man the blessed goal may reach.
4 Be of good cheer, for God’s own Son
Forgives all sins which thou hast done,
And, justified by Jesus’ blood,
Thy Baptism grants the highest good.
5 If thou be sick, if death draw near,
This truth thy troubled heart can cheer:
Christ Jesus saves my soul from death;
That is the firmest ground of faith.
6 Glory to God the Father, Son,
And Holy Spirit, Three in One!
To Thee, O blessed Trinity,
Be praise now and eternally!
BENEDICTION
C: Amen.
HYMN 377:10 All Blessing, Honor, Thanks, and Praise
10 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise
To Father, Son, and Spirit,
The God who saved us by His grace–
All glory to His merit!
O Triune God in heaven above,
Who has revealed Thy saving love;
Thy blessed name be hallowed.

THE EPISTLE LESSON: Romans 8:14-17
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs–heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. 2021-05-23 — Pentecost: The Commencement of the Age of the Holy Spirit.

bulletin.0002.jpg

Pentecost Sunday : Date: May 23, 2021

– THE SERMON: Acts 2:22-41

Theme: Pentecost: The Commencement of the Age of the Holy Spirit.
I. The Holy Spirit Directs the Message of Christ
II. The Holy Spirit Calls Sinners to Repentance
SERMON TEXT: Acts 2:22-41
22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know— 23 Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it. 25 For David says concerning Him:
‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face,
For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad;
Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.
27 For You will not leave my soul in Hades,
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the ways of life;
You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’
29 “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, 31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
34 “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself:
‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” ’
36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 233:1-4 Come, Holy Ghost, Creator Blest
1 Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest,
Vouchsafe within our souls to rest;
Come with Thy grace and heav’nly aid
And fill the hearts which Thou hast made.
2 To Thee, the Comforter, we cry,
To Thee, the Gift of God Most High,
The Fount of life, the Fire of love,
The soul’s Anointing from above.
3 The sev’n-fold gifts of grace are Thine,
O Finger of the Hand Divine;
True Promise of the Father Thou,
Who dost the tongue with speech endow.
4 Thy light to every thought impart
And shed Thy love in every heart;
The weakness of our mortal state
With deathless might invigorate.
BENEDICTION
C: Amen.
HYMN 233:7 Praise We the Father and the Son
7 Praise we the Father and the Son
And Holy Spirit, with them One;
And may the Son on us bestow
The gifts that from the Spirit flow!

THE EPISTLE LESSON: Acts 1:1-21
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

THE GOSPEL LESSON: John 7:37-39
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. 2021-05-16 — Jesus’ Ascension Gives Direction to Our Lives

bulletin.0002.jpg

Sunday after Ascension: Date: May 16, 2021

– THE SERMON: Acts 1:1-11

Theme: Jesus’ Ascension Gives Direction to Our Lives
I. Assurance of Successful Fulfillment of His Mission of Salvation
II. Focus on Our Kingdom Calling
III. Anticipating His Visible, Physical Return.
SERMON TEXT: Acts 1:1-11
The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, 3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 215:Draw Us to Thee
1 Draw us to Thee, For then shall we
Walk in Thy steps forever And hasten on
Where Thou art gone To be with Thee, dear Savior.
2 Draw us to Thee, Lord, lovingly;
Let us depart with gladness That we may be
Forever free From sorrow, grief, and sadness.
3 Draw us to Thee; O grant that we
May walk the road to heaven! Direct our way
Lest we should stray And from Thy paths be driven.
4 Draw us to Thee That also we
Thy heavenly bliss inherit And ever dwell
Where sin and hell No more can vex our spirit.
5 Draw us to Thee Unceasingly,
Into Thy kingdom take us; Let us fore’er
Thy glory share, Thy saints and joint heirs make us.

16 (I) do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

THE GOSPEL LESSON: Luke 24:44-53
44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

2021-05-09 — Preserving Among Us the Gospel of God’s Love.

bulletin.0002.jpg

5th Sunday after Easter: Date: May 9, 2021

– THE SERMON: 1 John 4:1-11

Theme: Preserving Among Us the Gospel of God’s Love.
I. Discerning Between Truth and Error
II. Persevering in Christian Love
SERMON TEXT: 1 John 4:1-11
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 397:1-4 O Love, who Madest Me to Wear
1 O Love, who madest me to wear
The image of Thy Godhead here;
Who soughtest me with tender care
Thro’ all my wand’rings wild and drear–
O Love, I give myself to Thee,
Thine ever, only Thine to be.
2 O Love, who ere life’s earliest dawn
On me Thy choice hast gently laid;
O Love, who here as man wast born,
And like to us in all things made–
O Love, I give myself to Thee,
Thine ever, only Thine to be.
3 O Love, who once in time wast slain,
Pierced thro’ and thro’ with bitter woe;
O Love, who, wrestling thus, didst gain
That we eternal joy might know–
O Love, I give myself to Thee,
Thine ever, only Thine to be.
4 O Love, who thus hast bound me fast
Beneath that easy yoke of Thine;
Love, who hast conquered me at last,
Enrapturing this heart of mine–
O Love, I give myself to Thee,
Thine ever, only Thine to be.
BENEDICTION
C: Amen.
HYMN 50:2 Thanks We Give and Adoration
2 Thanks we give and adoration
For Thy Gospel’s joyful sound.
May the fruits of Thy salvation
In our hearts and lives abound;
Ever faithful, Ever faithful
To the Truth may we be found!

– THE SERMON: John 15:1-8

Theme: Our Connection to Our Living, Lifegiving Savior
I. The Vital Nature of This Connection
II. The Blessings Flowing from This Connection
SERMON TEXT: John 15:1-8
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (NKJV)

PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 433 Jesus, My Truth, My Way
1 Jesus, my Truth, my Way, My sure, unerring Light,
On Thee my feeble soul I stay, Which Thou wilt lead aright.
2 My Wisdom and my Guide, My Counselor Thou art:
Oh, let me never leave Thy side, Nor from Thy paths depart!
3 Thou seest my feebleness; Jesus, be Thou my Pow’r,
My Help and Refuge in distress, My Fortress and my Tow’r.
4 Myself I cannot save, Myself I cannot keep;
But strength in Thee I surely have, Whose eyelids never sleep.
5 My soul to Thee alone Now, therefore, I commend.
Thou, Jesus, having loved Thine own, Wilt love me to the end!

BENEDICTION

HYMN 453:1,2 We Are the Lord’s
1 We are the Lord’s; His all-sufficient merit,
Sealed on the cross, to us this grace accords.
We are the Lord’s and all things shall inherit;
Whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.
2 We are the Lord’s; then let us gladly tender
Our souls to Him in deeds, not empty words.
Let heart and tongue and life combine to render
No doubtful witness that we are the Lord’s.

SERMON TEXT: Acts 4:23-33
23 And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. 24 So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, 25 who by the mouth of Your servant David have said:
‘Why did the nations rage,
And the people plot vain things?
26 The kings of the earth took their stand,
And the rulers were gathered together
Against the Lord and against His Christ.’
27 “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together 28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. 29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”
31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
32 Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. (NKJV)

HYMN 413:5 I Walk with Jesus All the Way
5. I walk with Jesus all the way, His guidance never fails me;
Within His wounds I find a stay When Satan’s power assails me;
And by His footsteps led, My path I safely tread.
In spite of ills that threaten may, I walk with Jesus all the way.

2nd Sunday after Easter: Date: April 18, 2021

– THE SERMON: Acts 4:8-12

Theme: Witnessing the Power of a Living Savior!
I. The Power to Save.
II. The Power to Empower His Disciples.
III. The Power to Steadfastly Proclaim the Gospel.
SERMON TEXT: Acts 4:8-20
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: 9 If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, 10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. 14 And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. 15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, 16 saying, “What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. 17 But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.”
18 So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 305:1,4,7 Soul, Adorn Thyself with Gladness
1 Soul, adorn thyself with gladness, Leave behind all gloom and sadness;
Come into the day-light’s splendor, There with joy thy praises render
Unto Him whose grace unbounded Hath this wondrous Supper founded.
High o’er all the heav’ns He reigneth, Yet to dwell with thee He deigneth.
4 Ah, how hungers all my spirit For the love I do not merit!
Oft have I, with sighs fast thronging,
Thought upon this food with longing,
In the battle well-nigh worsted, For this cup of life have thirsted,
For the Friend who here invites us And to God Himself unites us.
7 Jesus, Sun of Life, my Splendor, Jesus, Thou my Friend most tender,
Jesus, Joy of my desiring, Fount of life, my soul inspiring–
At Thy feet I cry, my Maker, Let me be a fit partaker
Of this blessed food from heaven, For our good, Thy glory, given.
