2020-08-30 — Jesus Tests the Faith of a Gentile Woman

13th Sunday after Pentecost: Date: August 30, 2020

– THE SERMON: Matthew 15:21-28

Theme: Jesus Tests the Faith of a Gentile Woman
I. The Nature and Purpose of these Tests
II. Faith Grew Stronger through these Tests
SERMON TEXT: Matthew 15:21-28
Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”
23 But He answered her not a word.
And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.”
24 But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 32 Redeemed, Restored, Forgiven
1. Redeemed, Restored, forgiven, Thro’ Jesus’ precious blood,
Heirs of His home in heaven, Oh, praise our pard’ning God!
Praise Him in tuneful measures Who gave His Son to die;
Praise Him whose sev’nfold treasures Enrich and sanctify.
2. Once on the dreary mountain We wandered far and wide,
Far from the cleansing fountain, Far from the pierced side;
But Jesus sought and found us And washed our guilt away;
With cords of love He bound us To be His own for aye.
3. Dear Master, Thine the glory Of each recovered soul.
Ah! Who can tell the story Of love that made us whole?
Not ours, not ours, the merit; Be Thine alone the praise
And ours a thankful spirit To serve Thee all our days.
4. Now keep us, holy Savior, In Thy true love and fear
And grant us of Thy favor The grace to persevere
Till, in Thy new creation, Earth’s time-long travail o’er,
We find our full salvation And praise Thee evermore.
BENEDICTION;
C: Amen.
Hymn 45:1 Now, the Hour of Worship O’er
Now, the hour of worship o’er, Teaching, hearing, praying, singing,
Let us gladly God adore, For His Word our praises bringing;
For the rich repast He gave us Bless the Lord, who deigned to save us.

13 For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, 14 if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them. 15 For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

2020-08-23 — The Christian’s Burden for Lost Souls.

12th Sunday after Pentecost: Date: August 23, 2020

– THE SERMON: Romans 9:1-5

Theme: The Christian’s Burden for Lost Souls.
I. Concern for the Spiritual Welfare of Others.
II. Appreciation for the Means of Grace
III. Trusting Jesus as Our Savior God.
SERMON TEXT: Romans 9:1-5
I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, 2 that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh, 4 who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; 5 of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 294: O Word of God Incarnate
1. O Word of God Incarnate O Wisdom from on high,
O Truth unchanged, unchanging, O Light of our dark sky –
We praise thee for the radiance that from the hallowed page,
A lantern to our footsteps, Shines on from age to age.
2. The Church from her dear Master Received the gift divine,
And still that light she lifteth O’er all the earth to shine.
It is the golden casket Where gems of truth are stored;
It is the heav’n-drawn picture Of Christ, the living Word.
3. It floateth like a banner Before God’s host unfurled;
It shineth like a beacon Above the darkling world;
It is the chart and compass that o’er life’s surging sea,
Mid mists and rocks and quicksands, Still guides, O Christ, to Thee.
4. Oh, make Thy Church, dear Savior, A lamp of burnished gold
To bear before the nations Thy true light as of old!
Oh, teach Thy wandering pilgrims By this their path to trace
Till, clouds and darkness ended, They see Thee face to face!
BENEDICTION;
C: Amen.
Hymn 283: God’s Word Is Our Great Heritage
God’s Word is our great heritage And shall be ours forever;
To spread its light from age to age Shall be our chief endeavor.
Through life it guides our way, In death it is our stay.
Lord, grant, while worlds endure, We keep its teachings pure
Throughout all generations.

– THE SERMON: Isaiah 55:1-5

Theme: Divine Guidance through the World’s Spiritual Marketplace
I. The Compelling Voice of the Lord
II. Offering an Everlasting Covenant
III. Inclusion in the Universal Call to Eternal Life
SERMON TEXT: Isaiah 55:1-5
“Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
3 Incline your ear, and come to Me.
Hear, and your soul shall live;
And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—
The sure mercies of David.
4 Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people,
A leader and commander for the people.
5 Surely you shall call a nation you do not know,
And nations who do not know you shall run to you,
Because of the LORD your God,
And the Holy One of Israel;
For He has glorified you.” (NKJV)

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

THE GOSPEL LESSON: Matthew 14:13-21
When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. 14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. 15 When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.”

2020-08-09 — God’s Kingdom: The Most Precious Treasure of All!

10th Sunday after Pentecost: Date: August 9, 2020

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WML28P_vDX0&w=560&h=315]- THE SERMON: Matthew 13:44-46

Theme: God’s Kingdom: The Most Precious Treasure of All!
I. A Hidden Treasure.
II. A Treasure Revealed by the Lord in His Word.
III. The One Treasure that Matters.
SERMON TEXT: Matthew 13:44-52
44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 366:1, 2, 5, 7 One Thing’s Needful; Lord, This Treasure
1. One thing needful; Lord, this treasure Teach me highly to regard;
All else, though it first give pleasure, Is a yoke that presses hard.
Beneath it the heart is still fretting and striving,
No true, lasting happiness ever deriving.
The gain of this one thing all loss can requite
And teach me in all things to find true delight.
2. Wilt thou find this one thing needful, Turn from all created things
Unto Jesus and be heedful of the blessed joy He brings.
For where God and Man both in one are united,
With God’s perfect fullness the heart is delighted;
There, there, is the worthiest lot and the best,
My One and my All and my Joy and my Rest.
5. Wisdom’s highest, noblest treasure, Jesus, lies concealed in Thee;
Grant that this may still the measure Of my will and actions be.
Humility there and simplicity reigning,
In paths of true wisdom my steps ever training.
Oh, if I of Christ have this knowledge divine,
The fullness of heavenly wisdom is mine.

7. Therefore Thou alone, my Savior, Shalt be All in all to me;
Search my heart and my behavior, Root out all hypocrisy.
Restrain me from wand’ring on pathways unholy
And through life’s pilgrimage keep my heart lowly.
This one thing is needful, all others are vain;
I count all but loss that I Christ may obtain.
BENEDICTION;
C: Amen.
Hymn 430:8 What Is the World to Me
8. What is the world to me! My Jesus is my Treasure,
My Life, my Health, my Wealth, My Friend, my Love, my Pleasure,
My joy, my Crown, my All, My bliss eternally,
Once more than I declare: What is the world to me!

III. Embracing God’s Deliverance through a Life of Faith

SERMON TEXT: Exodus 19:2-8a
For they had departed from Rephidim, had come to the Wilderness of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness. So Israel camped there before the mountain.
3 And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
7 So Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before them all these words which the LORD commanded him. 8 Then all the people answered together and said, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do.” (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
Hymn 408: Jesus Christ, My Pride and Glory

Whom I now as Lord confess, Teaches me true holiness.
2. Let me live to praise Thee ever, Jesus, Thou my heart’s Delight,
Thou who leadest me aright. Let me cling to Thee forever,
All the fleshly lusts deny, and the devil’s hosts defy.
3. Grant me, Lord, Thy Holy Spirit, that in all I follow Him
Lest the light of faith grow dim. Let me ever trust Thy merit,
Let Thy blessing me attend, From all evil me defend.
4. From all pain and imperfection, Gracious Lord, deliver me,
Heaven’s glory let me see. Keep me under Thy direction
That the grace Thou gavest me I may praise eternally.
Prayer:
C: Amen.

2020-07-26 — Enduring Hope.

8th Sunday after Pentecost: Date: July 26, 2020

– THE SERMON: Exodus 33:12-23

Theme: Enduring Hope.
I. In Hope All Creation was Subjected to Futility.
II. Eager Anticipation of Glory!
SERMON TEXT: Romans 8:18-25
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN 370 My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less
1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
3. His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
BENEDICTION;
C: Amen.
Hymn 644: Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

2020-07-19 — Seeking Rest in the Presence of the LORD

7th Sunday after Pentecost: Date: July 19, 2020

– THE SERMON: Exodus 33:12-23

Theme: Seeking Rest in the Presence of the LORD
I. Rest from the Rigors of Life’s Pilgrimage
II. Secure in the Cleft in the Rock
SERMON TEXT: Exodus 33:12-23
Then Moses said to the LORD, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ 13 Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.”
14 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
15 Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”
17 So the LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”
18 And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”
19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” 21 And the LORD said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.” (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN 315:1,5,6 I Come, O Savior to Thy Table
1. I come, O Savior, to Thy Table
For weak and weary is my soul;
Thou, Bread of Life, alone art able
To satisfy and make me whole:
Lord, may Thy body and Thy blood
Be for my soul the highest good!
5. Thy heart is filled with fervent yearning
That sinners may salvation see
Who, Lord, to Thee in faith are turning;
So I, a sinner, come to Thee.
Lord, may Thy body and Thy blood
Be for my soul the highest good!
6. Weary am I and heavy laden,
With sin my soul is sore opprest;
Receive me graciously and gladden
My heart, for I am now Thy guest.
Lord, may Thy body and Thy blood
Be for my soul the highest good!

– THE SERMON: Matthew 10:34-42

Theme: Expectations of Following Jesus:
I. A Sword
II. Life Fulfillment

SERMON TEXT: Matthew 10:34-42
“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. 40 “He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.” (NKJV)

2020-07-05 — The Difference One Man Makes in the World

5th Sunday after Pentecost: Date: July 5, 2020

– THE SERMON: Romans 5:12-15

Theme: The Difference One Man Makes in the World
I. For Evil: Sin Entered into the World and Death by Sin
II. For Good: Grace Abounds unto Eternal Life
SERMON TEXT: Romans 5:12-15
“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— 13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.” (NKJV)
PRAYER; THE LORD’S PRAYER

369:1,2,5,6 All Mankind Fell in Adam’s Fall
1. All mankind fell In Adam’s fall, One common sin infects us all;
From sire to son the ban descends And over all the curse impends.
2. Thro’ all man’s pow’rs corruption creeps
And him in dreadful bondage keeps;
In guilt he draws his infant breath
And reaps its fruits of woe and death.
5. As by one man all mankind fell
And, born in sin, was doomed to hell,
So by one Man, who took our place,
We all received the gift of grace.
6. We thank Thee, Christ; new life is ours,
New light, new hope, new strength, new powers;
This grace our every way attend
Until we reach our journey’s end!
Prayer:
C: Amen.
BENEDICTION;
