THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Isaiah 8:20-22
To the Word and to the Testimony!” this is the cry of the prophet exhorting the people to turn to the Word of God to find the truth of God, pleading with people to hear and believe the Word for it is truth and it is light. But even as they refused to hear the Word in the days of Isaiah, so also today, so many close their ears to the truth of God’s Word, and what they find as a result is darkness!
THE GOSPEL LESSON: Luke 4:14-22
The word of the prophet Isaiah declares the glory of Christ. So Jesus in the synagogues of Nazareth read to the people of His mission of grace and salvation that they might know the acceptable year of the Lord. But they would not listen. May the spirit of God open our hearts to believe all that the Scriptures reveal that we might know the Lord’s glory and the salvation that is ours through faith in Him.
